Example Of Personal Statement For Nursing School

As a current nursing student and aspiring nurse, I have decided to share my essay on personal statement with the world. This is one of two winning essays composed for the 2012 The Mary Cone Barrie Scholarship. The scholarship is one of few annual scholarships dedicated to graduating high school seniors and / or currently enrolled college students who plan on pursuing undergraduate education in the field. Throughout my life I have encountered many obstacles, which have caused me to become a stronger person. These obstacles include; family, loyalty and perseverance. My mother once told me “nurses are very caring people, who enjoy what they do” so that is what I wanted to be!

I was rifling through some old love letters when I found my application essay to the University of Texas School of Nursing ( UTSON ). I think posting it here will give current nursing students an example of an essay that undergraduate admission panels are looking for.

Nursing is a noble profession. It’s also very rewarding, and it allows you to help people in ways that most other professions don’t. I’ve been a nurse for ten years now, and I still consider my chosen profession to be the best one out there!

For example: when my patient was crying in pain because her cancer had metastasized into her lungs and she was getting ready to go home with hospice care rather than being admitted into the hospital again (and likely being sent home again after two weeks), I could tell that she wasn’t ready to give up fighting this disease yet. So we talked about how much better life would be when she felt better again—what it would be like when she could walk around outside without getting winded easily, or go on vacation somewhere warm where her skin wouldn’t be so pale anymore…and then I gave her some morphine so that she could enjoy those things sooner rather than later!

The applicant must have overcome obstacles in their life and succeeded despite those challenges.

The essay below was written by a woman named Rebecca from Massachusetts, who was given an opportunity to describe her unique story as it relates to nursing. While the essay does not directly speak about her goals or desires, there are some key points about Rebecca that can be inferred from what she has written:

  • She’s passionate about helping others
  • She has a strong sense of responsibility towards others’ well-being

I also found that being a nurse was something I enjoyed doing for others. It wasn’t just about helping them get better but also making sure they were comfortable during their recovery process. The reason why I became a nurse is because it is an honorable career path for someone who wants to help people in need or just wants to make sure everyone is healthy around them.

This essay is a good example of what admissions committees are looking for, especially those that ask you to write about something that has affected you the most or taught you some kind of lesson. The fact that she had to deal with the accident in her own family makes it even more effective, because it shows how she was impacted by similar circumstances and gives her writing more weight. This essay is also a great example for undergraduate admissions panels, who want students to show their personality in their applications and give them something interesting and unusual to read. Finally, this essay is a winning essay—you can tell just by reading through it that it won’t be ignored; rather than being formulaic or vague like other essays might be (and getting rejected), this one gets straight into specific details about what happened between her mom and dad during their fight and how she felt about it all later on when she realized how much pain they were both going through.”

I hope this example of a personal statement for nursing school helps you in your application process. As a final note, don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it! There are many resources available online and offline that can assist with various stages of the application process. Good luck!
