About the School of Nursing at Duke University

Duke University’s School of Nursing is a nationally ranked nursing school with the largest program in North Carolina. The AACN Magnet Recognition Program awarded Duke’s School of Nursing for its high quality nursing education and research, as well as its commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The program consists of 80% hands-on clinical experiences, including critical care and adult cardiovascular surgery at Duke University Hospital, maternal child health at Novant Health Brunswick Regional Medical Center and pediatrics at Womack Army Medical Center (Fort Bragg). Students can also choose to study in China or Costa Rica during their junior year abroad.

Master’s in Nursing (MSN) Programs

You may be considering a master’s in nursing (MSN) program if you already have a bachelor’s degree in another field, or if you wish to add on to your current nursing education. You do not need an MSN for licensure as a nurse.

The variety of programs available at the master level is vast. Popular specialties include family nurse practitioner, gerontology and psychiatric mental health nursing. Some schools offer hybrid formats that combine classroom learning with online courses via distance learning or video conferencing technology.

There are also specialty degrees such as an MSN/PhD dual degree program where students can earn both advanced degrees simultaneously while studying under one faculty member at school campuses around the globe!

Nurse Practitioner Programs

Nurse practitioner programs are available at the master’s and doctorate levels.

The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is designed for registered nurses who want to become advanced practitioners and assume leadership roles in primary care and other clinical settings. Students typically complete their MSN in 12 months or less by taking classes one night per week or online during daytime hours while working full-time as a nurse. A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is a post-master’s degree that prepares graduates for clinical leadership roles in healthcare organizations, including clinical practice, research and education or policy development.

Doctor of Nursing Practice Programs

A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is a professional degree that prepares nurses to lead in evidence-based practice, education, and research. The DNP is a terminal degree that prepares nurses to lead in evidence-based practice, education, and research. Duke University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice is a program designed for practicing nurses who wish to pursue advanced clinical leadership roles at the highest level of clinical care delivery. It offers an increased focus on health care policy and systems management through coursework in finance and administration; analyzing business plans; budgeting; quality management; human resource management; legal issues related to healthcare organizations; information technology management strategies used within hospitals or outpatient settings

UCAN

• UCAN is a two-year program. The school offers a RN-to-BSN program that leads to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
• UCAN is a hybrid program, meaning the majority of classes take place online and in person instruction occurs once per week.
• UCAN requires all students to enroll in a cohort model, which means they will take all their classes together during the same time period rather than being randomly placed with other students from across the country or globe as some programs do. This allows them to build relationships with their classmates while attending lectures on campus together at UNC Charlotte once per week.
• Students must meet certain requirements before applying for this program:
• Must be 18 years old or older at time of application
• Must hold current licensure as an RN (Registered Nurse) in North Carolina or any other state where practice privileges are held; verification may be requested by nursing faculty staff; also see NC Board Of Nursing website for further information on how to obtain licensure
