What is the Panetta Institute Congressional Internship?

The Panetta Institute Congressional Internship is an opportunity for recent college graduates to gain experience in the federal government. The program offers students the chance to work directly with congressional staff on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

The internship is divided into two parts: an eight-week summer internship and a one-month winter internship. During the summer internship, students will work with congressional staff on drafting, researching, and writing legislation. In the winter internship, students will work on legislative issues specific to their area of interest.

Students must be eligible to legally work in the United States and have at least two years of undergraduate experience by the time they start the program. They must also have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and be available to travel during their internship. The Panetta Institute offers financial assistance for those who need it, and all interns are required to complete a volunteer service project while they are interning with congressional staff.

The Panetta Institute Congressional Internship Program

Eligibility Requirements for the Panetta Institute Congressional Internship

The Panetta Institute Congressional Internship is open to students who have completed their sophomore year at an accredited U.S. college or university and are interested in pursuing a career in politics. The internship offers students the opportunity to work with talented professionals within the U.S. Capitol and learn about the legislative process.

In order to be eligible for the internship, applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate financial need. In addition, interns must be able to commit at least 20 hours per week to the program, including scheduled office hours as well as research and writing responsibilities. Applicants should also be active members of their undergraduate student organizations.

The Application Process

The Political Science Research Assistantship gives interns the opportunity to conduct research on a specific issue or topic they are interested in.

Selection Process

The Panetta Institute for Public Policy has a congressional internship program that provides interns with the opportunity to work in Congress and learn about the legislative process.

To be eligible for the internship, applicants must be juniors or seniors at an accredited college or university and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Internship applications are accepted every year, and the program offers three different types of internships: policy research, policy development, or communications.

The internship is open to students from all political ideologies, and all interns receive training on how to conduct themselves effectively in Washington, D.C. The program also provides opportunities for students to meet with legislators and staff members, attend hearings and briefings, and participate in mock sessions of floor debate.

Housing and Internship Facilities

The Panetta Institute offers a variety of housing and internship facilities to its congressional interns. The institute has a dormitory on campus that can accommodate up to 24 interns at one time. In addition, there are several apartments close to the institute that can be used for overnight stays. The institute also has a number of furnished rooms available for use by interns.

The Program
