Renew Nursing License Michigan

The Michigan Board of Nursing has a new website where you can renew your nursing license. The process is quick, easy and secure. If you do not have a valid email address, you will need to create one before starting your renewal. It takes less than 5 minutes to complete the process! Once you have created an account, select “Renew & Receive Packet” on the right hand side of the page then click on “Start Now”.

For RNs, LPNs and Nurse Practitioners

If you are a licensed nurse, LPN or Nurse Practitioner (NP), the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires that you renew your license every two years. Your renewal period begins on the expiration date of your current RN license.

You must meet certain requirements for renewal in order to maintain your current RN license. These include:

  • Completing continuing education requirements
  • Receiving approval from an employer

Renewal Period · Next renewal period is Nov. 1, 2014 to Oct. 31, 2016.

Renewal Period

The renewal period for all nurses licensed in Michigan is every 2 years, beginning on the nurse’s birth date and ending on their license expiration date. The next renewal period is Nov. 1, 2014 to Oct. 31, 2016.

During this time frame you will receive a letter from the Michigan Department of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs (LARA) alerting you that your license will expire soon and requesting a new form be completed with required documentation submitted along with it before your renewal deadline arrives.

Mandatory Continuing Education (CE) · CE requirements for these license types have not changed, but the due dates have.

Did you know that the date a license renewal is due to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has changed? The good news is that CE requirements for these license types have not changed, but the due dates have.

For example, if an RN or NP was licensed in May 2019 and renewed his or her license in September 2020, he or she would need to complete 30 hours of continuing education by September 2023. However, if that same RN or NP renews his or her license on November 1, 2020 and completes all other renewal requirements on December 15th of 2020; they will be required to complete 30 hours of CE by December 31st 2023.

Renew Nursing License Michigan help

The renewal period for RNs, LPNs and nurse practitioners is every two years. You must submit an application for renewal within the appropriate time frame. Continuing education hours are mandatory in order to renew your license in Michigan. The following table outlines CE requirements:

  • RNs must complete 20 hours of CE during their two-year cycle
  • LPNs must complete 10 hours of CE during their one-year cycle
  • Nurse Practitioners must complete 36 hours of CE during their three-year cycle

The renewal process is not difficult. Make sure you have all of your CE requirements completed and be sure to check that your license has been updated in the online database before applying for renewal.
