Advancing Excellence in Pediatric Nursing Practice, Education & Research

SPN is a professional organization for pediatric nurses, students and others interested in the field of pediatric nursing. The Society’s focus is on enhancing the quality of care to children and their families through education, research and advocacy. SPN members are committed to improving the health status of children through individual efforts, collaborative projects within SPN and involvement in other professional organizations.

The Society also offers many opportunities for continuing education activities through its annual meeting as well as online conferences and webinars.

SPN was founded by visionary pediatricians who recognized the need for nurses trained specifically for caring for infants, children, adolescents and young adults; these nurses would be able to work collaboratively with physicians treating young patients suffering from acute illnesses or injuries; they would also serve those whose medical needs were chronic (elderly) or behavioral (mentally ill). To this end they established an organization called “Society For Pediatric Nursing” which held its first meeting on June 9th 1909 at Bellevue Hospital in New York City – now called NYU Langone Medical Center.”
