What is the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation?

The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1984 by the six surviving Mercury astronauts. The ASF’s mission is to “aid in the development of outstanding scientists and engineers” by providing scholarships to college students who show exceptional promise in these fields.

To date, the ASF has awarded over $4 million in scholarships to more than 700 students at over 300 colleges and universities across the United States. Scholarships are typically awarded for one academic year, but can be renewed for up to three years if the recipient continues to meet the criteria set forth by the foundation.

What type of scholarships are offered?
