The required exams for certification in naturopathy
Anyone interested in becoming a naturopath must first complete an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in naturopathy. After completing the required courses, students must take an approved naturopathy exam.
There are a variety of naturopathy certification exams available, and each has its own set of requirements. The National Certification Board for Naturopathic Examiners (NCBNE) offers two types of certification: the Basic Naturopathic Exams (BNE) and the Certified Naturopathic Physician (CNP) exams.
To qualify to take the BNE exam, candidates must have completed an undergraduate or graduate program in naturopathy that includes coursework in anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, and pathology. The exam is open to graduates of programs accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME), as well as naturopathic programs at institutions not currently accredited by CNME.
The CNP exam is more challenging and is open only to graduates of programs that have passed the BNE exam and meet other requirements set by NCBNE. Candidates for the CNP exam must have completed a residency program in naturopathy after completing the BNE exam.
